At Saint-Jean-de-Fos, in the Hérault Valley, plunge straight into history and into the heart of a legend by witnessing authentic pottery production at the traditional potters' village of Saint Jean de Fos which still boasts ten fully operational workshops.
The Argileum House of Pottery, established in the oldest preserved workshop, was opened in 2011 to illustrate this ancient tradition.
From clay preparation to firing, turning and handle placing, the visitor can follow all the steps of pottery manufacture which have made Saint Jean de Fos famous.
A combination of Historic Monument premises with a state-of-the-art exhibition, makes the visit to Argileum a comprehensive and compelling panorama of the long history of ceramics.
A fun and unique experience where the whole family can discover the history of this noble material and its uses.
Visit the pottery shop, where various traditional and contemporary terracotta products of the Saint Jean de Fos workshops are for sale.
