LE ROCHER DES VIERGES

balade et randonnée

LE ROCHER DES VIERGES

Situated to the north-west of the municipality of Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian, the Rocher des Vierges provides an outstanding panoramic view over the Hérault plain to the sea, as well as a commanding view of the "ruffes" at Saint-Guiraud and Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian. A natural stronghold that stands out visibly from the foothills of the Larzac, the Rocher des Vierges promontory is crowned by pillars of dolomite rock. This topographic setting means that the site acts as the perfect lookout and may explain its complex occupation from the Iron Age to the Middle Ages. A number of footpaths provide access to this remarkable site with no major access issues.
